Comparison between Cozy Mystery Fiction & Hard-Boiled Fiction

Crime Fiction
(Cozy Mystery Fiction Vs Hard-Boiled Fiction)

Crime fiction is essentially a genre that deals with crime, its investigations, criminals and motives. It focuses on the violation of the legal, morals and social values of a country (Scaggs,2005, p.2) . Seago (2014) points out that crimes and criminals can indicate what each civilisation views as legal and acceptable. It is also about understanding how and why the crime happened and how a detective can solve the case (Jalová, 2007). In crime fiction, the writer is interested in characterisation, psychological motivation, and trivial details of everyday life (Jalová, 2007). Mostly, crime fiction stories and novels have a common structure. It begins with a crime, usually a murder; then there is an investigation; and finally there is a judgement and punishment which often end with the arrest or death of the criminal (Ibid, 2007).  The hero of crime fiction is usually a detective who acts upon the rules of logic rather than emotions. He often has a friend who helps him to reveal the culprit (Jalová, 2007). Yet, in some novels and stories the hero is not the detective but the criminal himself.
